Meet our Dolls & Dudes
-
Amber G.
MS. AMBER - Paddler
Passionate about gardening, cooking, and indigo dyeing, Amber loves anything that lets her work with her hands and create beauty. Since 2018, she’s found deep joy and strength in dragon boat paddling— she says there’s nothing like the rhythm, teamwork, and splash of water to clear the mind. When she’s not puzzling through a jigsaw or planning her next trip, she’s laughing over drinks with friends and soaking up the good moments. -
Aysha M.
MS. OBSIDIAN - Paddler
This is Aysha’s first season with the Reservoir Dolls and first time dragon boat racing. She’s spent 17 years watching her sons on a baseball field and it’s says great to be involved in a team sport for herself. She loves being on the water, the technique and the rewarding hard work that comes with paddling. When she’s not dry land training or out on the water with the Reservoir Dolls she’s enjoying time watching baseball, riding her horse and she’s in an axe throwing league!
-
Bonnie C.
MS. VERIDIAN - Paddler
For many years, Bonnie watched people paddling on the reservoir and always thought it would be something fun to try. Her husband remembered one of his friends from high school did dragon boating so he introduced the two, and the rest is history 4 years later! Bonnie loves the camaraderie of the team and the meditative feeling of being out on the water during the paddle season. -
Broc C.
MR. GREEN - Paddler
Besides getting to spend time with his wife who is a super awesome paddling partner, Broc enjoys the discipline of dragon boating and the challenge of trying to master the paddling technique with the goal of getting stronger and faster every practice. Broc is a father and husband who, when he’s not on the reservoir, can be found in the mountains: snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer. -
Cassie N.
MS. YELLOW - Paddler
Cassie first paddled in a dragon boat over 10 years ago while living in Halifax, NS. What started as a one-off event quickly turned into a love for the sport. After moving to Calgary, she missed being on the water—she is a Maritimer, after all—and was looking to meet new people. Joining a dragon boat team seemed like the perfect way to get both her water and people fix. -
Chris D.
MR. ORANGE - Paddler/Steers
Chris D: Human Male. Age: ~47 years. Height: 1.75 meters. Mass: 80 Kg. Range: Mostly northern latitudes. This curious creature is terrestrial, but has been observed floating and swimming in lakes, rivers and oceans throughout its range. First discovered on a Dragon Boat in 2022, it was only previously thought to be limited to kayak and lazy river travel. The primary motivation for Dragon Boat behavior appears to be social, although this energetic hominid requires exercise to remain competitive. Food sources include Chicken Wings, Tacos and Beer. Generally pleasant disposition -
Claudia G.
MS. MUSTARD - Paddler
This is Claudia’s fourth season paddling. She joined the team with Sib, and from the first paddle, they were hooked. Claudia is one of the team’s strokes and her steady rhythm (and steady personality) help keep the team calm both on the water and off. When she’s not on the reservoir or training in the gym, Claudia is an avid traveller, both for work as well as often jet-setting home to visit her family in Germany, where she’s originally from. -
Conrad Y.
MR. PORT - Paddler
After retirement, Conrad was eager to do something different to maintain his fitness and to meet new folks from all walks of life. Dragon boat was his pick as he has always wanted to participate but life and his work always got in the way.. Conrad says the Dolls & Dudes team is a great mix! Fun, witty and competitive when the time needed to be! He gives kudos to Annette, our coach, who he says has been a great motivator during the off season at maintaining our fitness and regularly gives feedback on paddling strategies during the regular season. Paddles up! -
Corina C.
MS. RED - Paddler
Corina is a mother of 3 who loves spending time outdoors. Her favourite part of dragon boating is the connections with the teammates and how while the team is in the boat we are fully disconnected from the outside world.. She says it’s a way to simplify your thoughst , even if just temporarily. Practices give her and her husband and teammate, Broc, time away from their kids twice a week and a new fun common goal to work towards together. -
Dani M.
MS. SAFFRON - Paddler
Dani found the Reservoir Dolls (or maybe they found her?!) when she was in the worst shape of her life, both physically and mentally. Over the past three seasons, paddling and working with Coach Annette has been life-changing – she’s built resiliency, confidence, strength and feels privileged to be a part of such an incredible community. Dani loves training with the Dolls & Dudes both on the water and in the gym, and she is grateful for the lifelong friendships she’s made with her teammates.
-
Danielle T.
MS. CORNFLOWER - Paddler
Meet Danielle (D for short). She’s a married mom of three. Some of her passions include live music, kayaking, and enjoying time with her favorite people (alongside dragon boating, of course!). She’s been paddling with the Dolls since 2022, and she’s loving it!! She says it’s been an incredible experience - a fun way to connect with others, stay active and challenge herself, and enjoy some time out on the water. D is looking forward to doing this for many years to come!
-
Debby K.
MS. FERN - Paddler
Meet Debby! She’s someone who lives for travel and a little bit of thrill! Whether it’s ziplining through trees or trying something wild on vacation. But at heart, she’s still a kid who loves Archie comics and never skips a good cartoon marathon! Debby has been paddling with the Dolls for four years and loves being out on the water with the team! -
Jacqueline G.
MS. MAGENTA - Paddler/Drummer
Jacqueline witnessed the birth of the Reservoir Dolls in 2018, and has been paddling with the team since! Outside of paddling, she is a dual ticketed tradesman and enjoys spending her time outdoors. When she’s not training with the team, you can find her in her garden! This season, Jacqueline is trying her hand at drumming for the ladies team for some of their races! -
Jen M.
MS. LILAC - Paddler
Jen joined the team in 2022. When she’s not dragon boating, she can be found paddle boarding, hiking or gardening. Jen is currently on baby leave and will be back and ready to paddle next season! -
Jess W.
MS. SANGRIA - Paddler
This is Jess’s second year paddling with the Reservoir Dolls. She is witty, logical, driven, and enjoys training with the team, both on the water and off! -
Julie S.
MS. AQUA - Paddler
Aptly nicknamed, Ms Aqua is happiest when on the water. She grew up on the Shuswap Lake in BC and, as much as the smell of purple gas on a hot summer day fills her with nostalgia, nothing beats a paddle power-play out on the Pacific Ocean or Alberta’s mountain lakes and prairie reservoirs. Ms Aqua started kayaking in 2014 and it quickly became her solo addiction. She joined the Reservoir Dolls dragon boat team in 2018 to learn how to play nicely with others. -
Katy K.
MS. WHITE - Paddler
This is Katy’s first season with the Reservoir Dolls, though she’s paddled for years in Vancouver prior to moving to Calgary. Katy is dedicated to her training, and has quickly integrated herself into the team, making it feel like she’s been around for years! -
Kylie R.
MS. EMERALD - Paddler
Kylie joined the Reservoir Dolls for the 2022 season. For someone afraid of water, she sure loves her water sports now. From air to water, it's all about the adrenaline for Kylie. As a busy wife and mother of two littles, nothing can describe the peace, calm and adrenalin out on the water with her team. -
Laurie K.
MS. CHARTREUSE - Paddler
Laurie began her dragon boat journey in 2022, when her lifelong habit of people-pleasing—fostered lovingly by childhood trauma—was expertly exploited by that year’s team. It didn’t take long for her to realize the manipulation was worth it. Dragon boating turned out to be the perfect outlet: a harmonious blend of indulging her inner water baby and soothing the midlife crisis dragon quietly smoldering within. -
Lorri M.
MS. PEACH PEARL - Paddler
Lorri has always enjoyed team sports and the outdoors, canoeing, camping and photographic arts. This is her first year with the Reservoir Dolls and Dudes. Retired from Emergency Services, Lorri is enjoying her family and spending time helping design home renovations and playing in her garden! -
Paul S.
MR. SMOKEY - Paddler
This is Paul’s second year on the Dolls & Dudes. An avid runner, Paul brings his dedication into his dragon boat training. His dry sense of humour gives everyone on the team a good laugh on a regular basis and you can always count on him to offer words of wisdom, or, even more often, a well-timed joke. Paul enjoys being out on the water with the team working to improve his strenght and stroke. -
Paula B.
MS. SAPPHIRE - Paddler
When Paula joined Sistership Dragon Boat Team in 2017, she had not even heard of the sport before. What began as a new experience quickly became a lasting passion. Paddling has given her strength not only physically but mentally as well. Paula came aboard the Reservoir Dolls and Dudes in 2024 and looks forward to each stroke of the paddle, laughs with team mates and the gorgeous views along the Calgary reservoir. -
Phaustine O.
MS. FROST - Paddler
Meet Phaustine! This is her 4th year paddling with the team. She joined for the challenge and stayed for the amazing teamwork and energy. When she’s not on the water, she works in healthcare and loves spending time outdoors. She’s looking forward to making more waves with this awesome crew! -
Rita M.
MS. TANGERINE - Paddler
Rita’s friends encouraged her to try dragon boat. She did and fell in love with it. She loves the social part, and she likes to learn new things and push herself. -
Roger M.
MR. BLACK – Steers/Paddler
Roger has been paddling for more than 20 years, and has been the team’s steers since the inception of the Reservoir Dolls in 2018. Rog steers for the ladies team, and paddles for the Dolls & Dudes. Married to Coach Annette, the two of them have coached many sports teams over the years and from Rog’s position at the back of the boat, he offers a different perspective and vantage point, helping the team improve their strokes. Rog is most known on the team for his one-liners, including “Paddle the shit out of both sides of this Canoe, ladies”, and “Balls to the Wall”, both of which have stuck as our pre-race mantras. -
Sheila M.
MS. CRIMSON - Paddler
Sheila originally started training with the team before Covid but only started paddling in 2024. She’s always got a smile on her face and brings joy to the boat each practice and festival. -
Sib S.
MS. PLUM - Paddler
This is Sib’s fourth season dragon boating. She stumbled upon this amazing sport by pure chance and is so happy and grateful that she did. Sib loves the mantra that “a dragon boat race is not won just by bodily strength but by a boat full of kind hearts racing towards that finish line with synchronicity”. The community spirit of the team keeps her in the sport and she hopes to be paddling for many years to come. -
Steph S.
MS. SCARLETT - Paddler/Captain
A busy mom with a passion for adventure, Stopa has been paddling with the team for 7 years and proudly serving as captain and manager for the past 3. Whether she's organizing practices, helping lead race day strategy, or cheering on her crews, she brings energy, dedication, and a deep love for the sport of dragon boating. Off the water, you’ll find her chasing new experiences and living life to the fullest with her little family — always up for the next challenge.
-
Vicki L.
MS. AZURE - Paddler
Vicki joined the Dolls & Dudes in 2024. A dancer, she brings her grace and synchronicity into the dragon boat. Vicki’s warm and welcoming personality adds to the camaraderie on the team!
-
Warren M.
MR. RUST - Paddler
Warren has always enjoyed sports (lifelong soccer player) and the outdoors, canoeing, camping and photography. This is his first year with the Reservoir Dolls and Dudes. As a retired carpenter, Warren now has freedom to spend time with his family and renovate his home!
-
Wayne S.
MR. BLUE - Paddler
For nearly 40 years, Wayne worked in Healthcare. The best job he have ever had. He says it worked because the people worked as a team.– and it’s the same in Dragon Boating. If the team works together we go straight and stay afloat. Wayne thinks we have an amazing team and we have fun. All who know Wayne know family is the most important thing in this world to him. It was family who got him to start Dragon Boating.
